The Dallas Mavericks were handed a very tough loss Sunday night against the Indiana Pacers, who sit in the 9th spot in the Eastern Conference, 104-99. The Pacers had lost 7 out of their last 8 games and with the Thunder, Rockets and Warriors being the Mavs next three opponents, this loss stings even more.
“They’re a good team. They put you in some tough situations,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said about the Pacers.
Dirk Nowitzki had 19 points shooting 7 of 13, Chandler Parsons continued his fantastic offense with 27 points and 10 rebounds and Rajon Rondo had 17 points, 10 assists all resulting in a losing effort.
The main issue with the Mavs tonight has become all too common. The Pacers shot 10 of 17 from three and had a 50% total field goal percentage. The Mavs defense just downright stunk. C.J. Miles, a Texas native and averaging 12.6 points per game, dropped 28 against Dallas and made 5 threes.
The upset looked inevitable when with one minute and twenty seconds we gave it to Charlie Villanueva who took an early in the shot clock three to attempt to take the lead from the three point line. After the miss and defensive rebound C.J. Miles drained a dagger and made it a five-point game.
The only silver lining is now that the Grizzlies have slipped we still are in line to play the Rockets in the first round.
Regardless, if this is the Mavs team we are getting for the remainder of the season our matchup may be darn near irrelevant.
