The 2018 off-season hasn’t been too positive for the Dallas Cowboys, especially since every sports article details how the Eagles won their first championship. So here is a sports article that details how the Cowboys can be back to their 2016 selves again. It all starts with the draft.
Back in 2016, the Cowboys won because of the dominance of the offensive line and Ezekiel Elliott. From there, quarterback Dak Prescott wasn’t asked to do much and made plays frequently leading to a 13-3 record and a first-round bye. The next year things drastically changed when the front office decided that guard Ron Leary wasn’t worth the money he was asking and let him go to the Denver Broncos. Add in the fact that the veteran leader of your line, Doug Free, retired and now your offensive line looks way different.
Soon suspensions and injuries took their toll and the offense struggled to maintain their identity. Now there are serious questions on whether or not key players like quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver Dez Bryant can help this team going forward. All this doom and gloom talk. The Cowboys can return to their 2016 ways by simply drafting this player or someone very close in comparison. Isaiah Wynn is the man to return to smash mouth football for Dallas.
Wynn played left tackle at Georgia, but is known to play across the line. Standing at just 6’2 and 300 pounds, he is more of a stocky player with limited reach. He really doesn’t scream starting tackle, but he fits perfectly as an athletic guard on a run-first team like the Cowboys. One of his better traits is his quick ability to get off multiple types of blocks. He also uses his hands well and maintains excellent balance with his feet. One intriguing thing people say about him is his mean streak. That is a big-time trait you want in a run-blocking guard.
According to NFL.com, one of his NFL play comparisons is Ronald Leary, the very man you are trying to replace in your line up for two seasons.
Wynn’s unique ability at being an excellent run blocker helps solidify the line play for the Cowboys going forward. With a stable offensive line back to doing what it does best, you will allow Elliott to have another MVP season once again and thus help the Cowboys other players get back on track.
The Cowboys aren’t good enough to go about another strategy to win. They need to go back to what works for them and that is run the ball down their throats and be ready to slice them up with the play-action pass.
So there is no debate. The Cowboys with the 19th pick need to pick Isaiah Wynn.
