On Tuesday before the All-Star Game, there was the All-Star Red Carpet Show on MLB Network with Rangers’ Emily Jones announcing the players. There were 69 players (excellent) who walked the carpet, including managers Bruce Bochy, Torey Lovullo, and Mark Kotsay. Fashion was displayed all over the red carpet, from the players to their wives to their kids; it was as if RuPaul’s Drag Race was on ESPN. Nevertheless, some players went a little more basic while others took another step forward. All 72 representatives that walked showcased their style, and here are the top 10 best looks of Tuesday’s Red Carpet (not that I am a fashion critic or anything).
10. Steven Kwan (Cleveland Guardians)
I think many of you probably have better picks than Kwan on this list, but there is a charm to Steven Kwan’s look on Tuesday. Kwan looks like he’s a member of the Cleveland Mafia. The jacket seems puffy, which I hope it isn’t because that would mean it’s warmer, but the hair was on point, and the glasses. Add the mustache that Kwan sports out; it was a combination of great looks.
9. CJ Abrams (Washington Nationals)
A couple of guys wore a suit jacket without an undershirt (Reynaldo Lopez is another who comes to mind). But color jumps you up a step on this list, and CJ Abrams wins that with his lighter green look. He actually went with the light olive green color because of the weather, which is a smart move on his part. Of course, Abrahams is sporting dreadlocks, and the shoes look very comfortable.
8. Jurickson Profar (San Diego Padres) and Jeff Hoffman (Philadelphia Phillies)
Alright, so I’m combining these two, but in my opinion, Jurickson edges out Hoffman. They’re together because they both realize the Texas heat is no joke and go shorts with their suits. However, Jurickson’s burnt orange with the “Prof” chain edges out Hoffman’s white plaid outfit. But I don’t want to eliminate Hoffman because more players should have shown off their legs. Either way, they both understood the weather in Texas.
7. Anthony Santander (Baltimore Orioles)
I don’t know about you guys, but when I saw Santander, I almost saw a character out of Grand Theft Auto Vice City. That’s not a knock (otherwise, he’d be off this list). The splashing green tint to his white coat and pants creates a splash, and it’s pretty sweet that he had his number sewn into his jacket. Santander was open about showcasing his look on the red carpet, and he should have. It was sweet.
6. Kirby Yates (Texas Rangers)
Kirby Yates went with the purple flowers and purple pants on Tuesday. It looked a little more pink in the sun, but it was still a color that didn’t showcase too much. I wouldn’t be shocked if Yates chose this color to accompany the character Kirby, who is more pink than purple but has a similar variation. It was also amazing that his wife and kids matched the same color as his, which many families did, to be honest. Unfortunately, Yates was the only Rangers player to make this list (sorry, Marcus and Corey), but he represented the Rangers fashionably well. If only he could wear that jacket when he’s closing games.
5. Alec Bohm (Philadelphia Phillies)
Bohm’s color is similar to Anthony Santander’s, but man, he took it up a couple of notches. First off, that long hair has a rock star look, but add the turquoise jacket with white flowers and pants with white shoes. Alec Bohm literally looked like he could jump the stage with a guitar and go old-school rock on us all. It was truly a masterpiece of fashion.
4. Hunter Greene (Cincinnati Reds) ‘
Man, the Cincinnati Reds can dress. Elly de la Cruz’s outfit was good, but it would be Greene if I had to choose a Reds player for best dressed. He pulls out like a character in an old West movie, just without the stirrups on his boots. The glasses and necklace are a great touch, and the cowboy hat matches the outfit. I also love the white shoulder contrast to the outfit, so it’s not entirely black. All in all, Greene’s outfit matches his pitching style, which is fiery.
3. Luis Arráez (San Diego Padres)
Luis Arráez came in steamy with his Padres yellow jacket and pants. There wasn’t a belt, but he didn’t need one. He also sported a white undershirt, but what impressed me was the inside of his Padres Gold jacket (is it yellow or gold? You decide). The inside says it was custom-designed for Arráez and had photos of him and his family. It was a great homage to his family, with his gorgeous little girl wearing a gold dress with flowers.
2. Bryce Harper (Philadelphia Phillies)
I am stunned that only Bryce Harper went the jeans route. He wasn’t the only one who sported the Cowboy Hat, but man, I thought maybe one or two more would go the jeans route. Either way, Harper’s Country Western attire and his country Western beard, hair, and boots push him to be the poster child for a Yeehaw Red Carpet.
1. Jarren Duran (Boston Red Sox)
When Duran passed through, my eyes lit up. Well, one of those reasons was his orange (maybe more apricot-colored) suit and pants. It was glorious. Add the circle shades and the hair (with a small chain), and Duran is my pick for the best fashion look on Tuesday. The flowers look like they pop out and look very thin; therefore, they are okay to wear when it comes to weather. If it was torture to wear due to the heat, then god bless Jarren Duran for giving fans a good look on Tuesday.
Honorable Mentions:
Pete Alonso (New York Mets)
Max Fried (Atlanta Braves)
Tyler Glasnow (Los Angeles Dodgers)
Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Dodgers)
Salvador Pérez (Kansas City Royals)
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto Blue Jays)
William Contreras (Milwaukee Brewers)
Adley Rutschman (Baltimore Orioles)
Also, please give it to some mascots who walked the red carpet Tuesday.
