After a successful three-game road trip where they went 2-1, the Legends were back home to take on the Canton Charge. Though the Legends fought back from a double-digit deficit, the Charge held on for a 110-107 win.
The Legends fell behind early in the first quarter and never saw the lead again. Trailing by four at halftime, the Charge came out on fire in the third quarter, extending the lead to 91-78.
The fourth quarter was a different story for the Legends. Texas outscored Canton 29-19 in the final frame but it wasn’t enough. Forced shots and transition defensive mistakes in the final few minutes led to the Legends defeat.
Rookie guard London Perrantes led the way for the Charge with 22 points and seven dimes. JaCorey Williams knocked in 18 points and 7 rebounds.
The Legends big men held their own against longtime NBA bruiser Kendrick Perkins tonight. #BullySzn was in session as Jameel Warney dropped a season-high 28 points and 12 boards in his home debut.
“I got a great workout in before the game. My body felt great. Tried to do what I can for the team. I have to do more for us to get a win but we’ll be fine.”
Johnathan Motley, who was reported to be called up by the Mavericks tomorrow by Mike Fisher of DallasBasketball.com, also filled the stat sheet with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Motley, who faced off against Perkins tonight, gave some insight. “It gives you a level of toughness. You know Perk is a real physical guy, known as a bruiser but I just tried to use my speed to get some easy buckets.”
In other news, another transaction took place today as the Legends acquired guard Wade Baldwin IV, who was transferred from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Baldwin IV, who is coming off thumb surgery, was excited to join the Legends team. “I’m real excited. Played pretty well in this gym last year. Can’t wait to be a part of that in about a week now.”
With guard Keith Hornsby dislocating his shoulder in tonight’s game, Baldwin IV should become a big part of the Legends rotation if Hornsby misses an extended amount of time.
The Legends hit the road again to battle it out with the Westchester Knicks on Friday.
