The University of Texas at Arlington has fired men’s head basketball coach Scott Cross.
“We thank Coach Cross and his staff for their service to the University and for developing a men’s basketball program that operates with honor and integrity,” athletic director Jim Baker said in a statement. “In order to align the program’s direction with the University’s objectives, I believe new leadership and energy surrounding the program is needed. We will begin a national search immediately.”
Cross is the winningest coach in UT-Arlington history, helping the program reach is only NCAA tournament appearance in 2008 and the 2009 NIT semifinals last season.
UT-Arlington has also parted ways with Cross’ entire staff, including associate head coach Greg Young, assistant coaches Zak Buncik and Kenneth Mangrum and director of operations Maurice Moore.
Cross led the Mavericks to the postseason five times in his 12-season tenure has head coach including a third-straight 20-plus win season during the 2017-18 campaign.
