Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl center and All-Pro Travis Fredrick announced his retirement from the NFL Monday evening.
Fredrick broke the news to the sporting world via Twitter where he stated it’s a decision he has considered for much time. It was an abrupt ending to a courageous comeback story that saw him start all 16 games in 2019 after missing all of 2018 with Guillain-Barré syndrome — a rare autoimmune disorder that attacks the body’s nervous system in response to illness.
Players, media and fans reacted to the news of his decision:
Looking forward to seeing you thrive off the field! https://t.co/NgADiV3JJU

Tyron Smith on Instagram regarding Travis Frederick's retirement: Forever my brother 👊🏾 Congratulations on one hell of a career my friend. It won’t be the same on that line without you but you better believe we will hold it down. The future is bright my brother. #CowboysNation pic.twitter.com/4T1HhG1txs

Hate to hear Travis Frederick is being forced to retire because of his auto-immune condition. Good man, strong leader, gaping loss in the middle of that line. 5 Pro Bowls should at least make him a Hall of Fame candidate. Thank you, sir, for all you did for the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys' Travis Frederick is walking away from the game.
Last season, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin and Tyron Smith made their 5th Pro Bowl together. From Elias: Since 1970, Zack Martin/Travis Frederick/Tyron Smith are the only OL trio to make 5 (or more) Pro Bowls together. pic.twitter.com/U2SB0vsxx8

Travis Frederick allowed 1 sack on 415 pass blocking plays in 2019.
35% of Ezekiel Elliott's career TD (14 of 40) have been on rushes up the middle behind Frederick.
Dak Prescott QBR rank
2016-17, 2019 (3rd)
2018 (17th)(Frederick missed the 2018 season)
An enormous loss.

Travis Frederick’s retirement leaves behind $11.3M of dead cap to the #Cowboys, clearing almost $630k. It’s a tough football and business loss for Dallas.

A lot changed for the Cowboys when Dez Bryant caught it at Lambeau Field.
With Travis Frederick's retirement only two offensive starters from that game remain for Dallas.
Tyron Smith and Zack Martin. Time flies.

Travis Frederick was the first player the Cowboys drafted after I started covering the team.
I still think of myself as pretty "new" to the beat, and he's retiring. Yeeeeesh life comes at you fast.

Great tribute to Travis Frederick from Zack Martin — as he points out, how Travis stayed engaged as a teammate when battling Guillian Barre Syndrome in 2018 is a great example to any athlete who suffers a season ending injury, or who maybe isn’t getting the playing time they want https://t.co/WU4D9CUVZO
