At some point, we’re going to run out of things to say about the amazing performance of Luka Doncic, right?
Following a week where the Mavericks went 4-0 and the sophomore playmaker put up insane averages of 37 points, 8.5 rebounds and 11.8 assists on 55% overall shooting, Doncic earned his first career Western Conference Player of the Week award on Monday.

Luka’s week included two insane 40 point performances with one of them being a triple-double last Monday night against the Spurs.
The hype and social media buzz surrounding Doncic probably reached an all-time high with national media outlets constantly praising and talking about the Mavericks and their 20-year-old superstar throughout the week. Perhaps with the exception of Dirk Nowitzki’s playoff run from mid-May to mid-June of 2011, there has never been a time where the eyes of the NBA were more constantly glued to what was going on with a Dallas Mavericks star.
With the accolade, Doncic became the first Maverick since J.J. Barea in April 2016 to win a Player of the Week award.
While it used to be very hard to get Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle to heap praise on any of his players in front of a microphone, it has become a daily staple of anytime Carlisle speaks to the media. After stating that Doncic could do basically anything he wanted to on a basketball court after a Mavs win last week, Carlisle was even more complimentary following Monday’s practice.
“He’s one of my favorite players I’ve ever been around,” said the coach and former player who has been involved with the NBA for over 35 years. “He’s engaging and he’s a great competitor. He has real great self-awareness on the court. He’s a very exciting guy to be around at this stage of his career.”
He’s a pretty fun guy to watch night and night out too, Coach. Mavericks fans should really count their basketball blessings and savor each and every time they get to watch this guy take the floor in this uniform.
