No Max Offer For Chandler Parsons, Fans Respond

It’s been discussed throughout the season. Then Chandler Parsons went down with an injury prior to the post-season, and the question hit the social media waves ever since. Now it has been answered.

It’s been reported that the Dallas Mavericks will not offer Chandler Parsons a max-offer contract once Free Agency kicks off at midnight on July 1st. It’s important to note that that doesn’t mean the Mavericks don’t have interest in bringing the forward back. It was obvious that he liked it in Dallas, and had a good rapport with Mark Cuban and others within the organization.

This all comes down to money. Chandler Parsons has never been one to shy about his analysis of himself. He felt highly disrespected when it came to the NBA Draft, and one can’t help but to wonder what his thoughts were of being in the shadows of Dwight Howard and James Harden in Houston. He feels he commands max contract money. Yeah, he has only played in one playoff game during his stint with Dallas. However, the thought that Parsons shouldn’t receive max money because of injuries isn’t valid. He did have the major knee surgery in 2015, but the injury at the end of this season was just poor timing. When healthy, he is a player that can do things in a variety of ways. Prior to that final surgery, Parsons was really hitting a groove. Imagine how the Mavericks could have looked with a healthy Parsons, and a quality big or solid point guard (ahem, Mike Conley?). That is what Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson and the Mavericks organization is banking on. Can they engage Parsons on the idea of taking a discount and take that money saved and apply it to some top tier targets like Conley or Hassan Whiteside?

We sent out the tweet earlier today about Parsons not getting max money, and the responses varied:

You also have to keep in mind the timing of all of this. The sooner the Mavericks figure out what to do with Parsons, the quicker they will have on creating a game plan for the rest of free agency. Do they go all in on the Mike Conley – Hassan Whiteside dream? Does that idea tank along with the dreams of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and DeAndre Jordan? Parsons has proven to be a big recruiter. He HAD Matthews and Jordan wrapped up in a bow, leaving them a potential contender in the Western Conference.

Let us not forget that there is a 7-foot German MVP, Finals MVP & 13-time All-Star waiting to see how this progresses. You can bet that other teams will be calling him, and making their pitches. You can also bet that he will be keeping a close eye on how the Mavericks proceed.

Tell us how you really feel MFFL’s! One thing is for sure. This summer will be like all of the other ones since 2011 for the Dallas Mavericks – a wild roller coaster ride that will most likely leaving you nauseous and glad it’s over with when you get to the end.
