DALLAS, Texas–Quarterback Ben Hicks threw for 338 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the SMU Mustangs to a 38-34 victory of the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.
Falling behind by 10 points early in the second quarter, the Mustangs used a balanced attack, including 89 yards rushing from Braeden West and 69 yards rushing from Xavier Jones, to propel SMU to a 6-2 record for the first time since 1984.
Mustang receivers Courtland Sutton, James Proche, and Trey Quinn all finished with 100-plus yards receiving as a part of 581 total yards for SMU’S fifth-rank offense.
With Friday night’s victory, head coach Chad Morris’ Mustangs became bowl eligible for the first time since 2012.
