Video games have ingrained themselves as part of our culture. In particular, sports games. That’s why every October basketball fans rejoice when 2K studios blesses us with the newest installment of their “NB2K” series.
Along with the fluid gameplay and jaw dropping graphics, one of the coolest features is the playable classic teams. From Wilt’s Lakers, to AI’s Sixers you can relive any era of basketball or superstar’s reign that you wish.
The developers at 2K took it even one step further this year. Along with more classic teams comes the addition of “All Time” teams. This means that there will be a version of all thirty teams stocked with the best players in the franchises history.
So this got me thinking…
Who would I put on the Mavs squad? Let’s break it down…
My Starting lineup
PG. Steve Nash
SG. Rolondo Blackman
SF. Michael Finley
PF. Dirk Nowitzki
C. Tyson Chandler
We had to start with the most productive point guard in franchise history here. Jason Kidd received serious consideration, but the younger Stevie Nash wins out. To compliment the maestro in Steve Nash, we plugged in both Ro Blackman and Michael Finley. While these guys are capable of getting their own shots, they’re also effective off ball weapons at the disposal of Nashy and our focal point, Dirk. No explanation necessary there. And to compensate for some defensive shortcomings in our first five, we will round out the group with Tyson Chandler.
My Bench
F. Mark Aguirre
G. Jason Terry
PG. Jason Kidd
F. Shawn Marion
C. Sam Perkins
PG. Derek Harper
F. Jamal Mashburn
Leading my bench unit will be the Mavericks first ever draft choice, Mark Aguirre. He will form a nice one-two punch off the pine with former Sixth Man of The Year Jason Terry. Next to Aguirre on the front line will be versatile wing stopper, the Matrix, Shawn Marion. Offensively gifted big man Sam Perkins will anchor this group, while all time great Jason Kidd runs the show. My final two roster spots go to Derek Harper and Jamal Mashburn. Harper earns this spot not just because he is a current voice of the team’s broadcast, but because he was a productive and reliable option for the Mavs. As for Jamal Mashburn, he wasn’t here for that long and his career was derailed by injuries. But when he was healthy? He was a dynamic talent and scorer who was ready to be the face of the franchise.
So that’s who made my squad…What would your all time Mavericks team look like? Let us know!
