The Mavericks search to find their next head coach and to shape their front office appears to be headed towards a conclusion very soon. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon are reporting that the team is on the verge of naming Jason Kidd as their next head coach and adding Nike executive to a “leadership position” within the team’s front office.
Kidd, 48, had a 19 year Hall of Fame career as a player that included eight seasons as a Maverick and was of course a member of the 2010-2011 championship team. His coaching career has not been nearly as successful with a one year stint as the coach of the Brooklyn Nets and then less than three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks as he was fired in his third season there back in 2017-2018.
Harrison, a long-time executive at Nike, reportedly has many ties with many notable NBA players through their dealing with the shoe giant over the years.
The Mavericks envision Nike's Nico Harrison and vice president of basketball operations Michael Finley working side by side, with special adviser Dirk Nowitzki also a significant part of Mark Cuban's reshaped brain trust. Harrison also has a longtime relationship with Jason Kidd.

The exact structure of the new Mavericks’ front office still needs to be sorted out, but there have certainly been some changes compared to about 10 or 11 days ago.
