In desperate need of healthy bodies, the Dallas Mavericks have waived forward Quincy Acy in order to sign free agent point guard Jonathan Gibson, the team announced today.
The ailing 2-8 Dallas Mavericks were forced to make a move after losing J.J. Barea in what appears to be a severe injury, in the Mavs 90-83 loss last night to the Boston Celtics. The Mavs are calling Barea’s injury a calf strain and he’s already been ruled out for tomorrow night’s showdown against Chandler Parsons and the Memphis Grizzlies at the American Airlines Center. As the team’s second leading scorer, Barea averaged 16.3 points and 5.4 assists in nine games for the Mavs.
Dallas currently only has one healthy point guard in Seth Curry on the roster with Devin Harris (toe) out and Deron Williams (calf) recovering from his latest injury. Williams is listed as questionable for tomorrow night’s game.
Acy averaged 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in just six appearances for the Mavs.
In 7 preseason games, Jonathan Gibson averaged 7.1 points, 3.0 assists, 1.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals while shooting just 32 percent. He averaged 17.0 points per contest during the Mavs Summer League.
“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
