How about a Christmas gift in October Mavericks fans? What looked like an impossibility has now turned into reality for all the right reasons. The Dallas Mavericks just announced that Deron Williams and Wesley Matthews will make their Mavericks debuts in the preseason finale tonight agains the Chicago Bulls.
Back on Media Day, Rick Carlisle mentioned that Chandler Parsons could be ready for the season opener, and that Matthews wouldn’t be ready until around Christmas.
Scratch that thought.
If you all haven’t figured it out, Matthews was persistent on making his debut for the season opener, and it now seems like he could be on track to do so. I’m sure he will be in a limited minutes role tonight, along with Williams, but the idea of seeing some more starters hit the court has to bring a smile to MFFL’s everywhere.
The Mavericks are still searching for their first preseason victory, despite getting some good results from different players on the roster. John Jenkins has arguably been one of the MVP’s of the NBA Preseason, averaging 20.8 points per game, shooting 48% from the field. Raymond Felton has also been a bright spot, as he is now fully healthy and appears to be in much better shape physically.
What looked like a somewhat meaningless game has now been ramped up by the news surrounding Williams and Matthews playing. To make the game even more intriguing, the Chicago Bulls announced that Derrick Rose will be making his preseason debut as well.
What looked like a potential rocky start to the Dallas Mavericks season has just been given a much needed jolt of electricity. Even if they don’t play much tonight, it will be nice to see what the Mavericks tarting back court will look like.
Unfortunately, the game will not be televised, unless you have NBA League Pass.
