James Nielsen – Houston Chronicle
While plenty of fans and media have written the Dallas Mavericks off heading into the 2015-2016 season, last night was no indication of those lingering fears being a reality. Despite the result, the Mavericks can take a lot from last night’s loss to the Denver Nuggets. Playing without four of their opening night starters in Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons, Wes Matthews, and Deron Williams, the Mavericks stayed competitive throughout. The Nuggets played their starters, and the Mavericks stayed right with them.
” You know, we turned the ball over a lot. Defensively, we can get better. But it’s a start, and we’ll kind of go from here and see where we can get better. Hopefully, we’ll get some more bodies in and get this thing going. – Devin Harris
As fun as that was to see some of our bench players getting some solid minutes, the Mavericks 1st round selection from this past draft never found his groove. Justin Anderson shot just 4 times, not getting one of them to fall through the basket.
Tonight, the Mavericks head down Interstate 45 to take on their “friends”, the Houston Rockets. They will once again be without the services of their main contributors. The Rockets also fell last night to the Memphis Grizzlies, and while this pales in comparison to the 1st-Round matchup from last season, the tension is always boiling when it comes to the Mavericks and Rockets taking the floor together.
