The Dallas Mavericks seemed busy yesterday. After signing Jarrid Famous to a 3-year deal, the Mavericks turned their attention to John Jenkins, from the Atlanta Hawks. Jenkins was the Hawks 23rd overall pick back in 2012.
The deal will be for three years at the vet minimum, according to RealGM.com. While Jenkins played in just 24 games last season, he averaged 5.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in a little under 13 minutes a game. Given some additional playing time, he could prove to be a strong bench contributor, thanks to his outside game. He shot 49.5% from the field last season, to go along with a blistering 40% from beyond the arc.
In past seasons, the Mavericks have really had a hard time finding guys to knock down the perimeter shot, which is something that shouldn’t be an issue this season. The Mavericks brought back Charlie Villanueva, signed Wesley Matthews and Deron Williams, to bring back to a group that still has Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons, and Devin Harris.
