Let It Begin: Dallas Mavericks Welcome Denver To Town

Paul Moseley Star-Telegram

Forget about what happened with DeAndre Jordan this off-season. Try to disregard the fact that we have over $30 million invested in two players dealing with injuries (Chandler Parsons & Wes Matthews). Oh yeah, try to forget how old Dirk Nowitzki is.

If you can do that, you can feel so excited about the Dallas Mavericks starting their preseason tonight in ‘Big D’. While tonight will not show a fraction of what this team can do this season, it will give the Mavericks an opportunity to look at some of their bench players in a larger minutes role, and give some of the young guns a chance to show what they got.

Injury Updates:

Wesley Matthews (left Achilles surgery) — Out

Dirk Nowitzki (rest) — Out

Salah Mejri (fractured left fibula) — Out

Chandler Parsons (right knee surgery) — Out

Dwight Powell (left elbow sprain) — Out

Deron Williams (left calf strain) — Out

JaVale McGee (left tibial stress fracture) — Out

Coach Rick Carlisle and the Mavericks front office have been given the task of slicing the current 20-man roster to 15 by opening night. On Sunday, the Mavericks held their annual Mavs Fan Jam, and participated in a White vs Blue team scrimmage in front of Mavericks fans. While that was all in good fun, the Mavericks seem ready to square off against someone else for a change.

“We’re ready. We’re ready to beat up on somebody else for one night,” said Carlisle.

So, while the major pieces are missing from this 2015-2016 roster, look for the Mavericks debut of Zaza Pachulia, and Justin Anderson‘s first preseason game as an NBA player.

Regardless of the lack of story lines heading into tonight’s game, it’s basketball season, which is more than enough reason to celebrate!

Let’s Go Mavs.

Ryan Wilson founded Mavs Fanatic (Now Dallas Sports Fanatic) in January of 2012. He had a vision of starting something new and different. A place where fans of the Dallas Mavericks and fans of writing could come and be heard. A blog "Run By Fans For Fans". He is also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago WhiteSox (His hometown team). Mavs Fanatic is now known as Dallas Sports Fanatic, a blog that covers all of the major Dallas pro sports teams.
