In a season where they’ve already clinched their highest win percentage for a campaign since moving to North Texas back in 2009, the Legends are hoping things are far from over for them.
With a record of 26-20, Texas is narrowly in front of of the Reno Bighorns (26-21) and the Sioux Falls Skyforce (25-22) for positioning for the last two playoff spots in the Western Conference with just a few games to go. In a critical game in many aspects, the Legends will host the 20-26 Agua Caliente Clippers at the Dr. Pepper Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Legends were lucky enough to draw five of their final six games at home to end the regular season. Sunday’s game will be the third game of that six game stretch and it’s the third straight home game overall for Texas. The Legends have split the first two games of the homestand with their most recent game being last Tuesday when they defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors 111-95.
It’s well chronicled how much the Legends roster has been affected by NBA call-ups this season. Kyle Collinsworth, Johnathan Motley, Jalen Jones and most recently Jameel Warney have all been called up to the Dallas Mavericks at various points this season and guards Donald Sloan and Wade Baldwin IV played several weeks with Texas before signing with the Chinese team Guangdong Southern Tigers and being called up to the Portland Trail Blazers, respectively. Through it all, the Legends have kept their head above water and continue to fight through the adversity that is so common for G-League teams.
With just a few games remaining in the regular season, the mainstays for the Legends this season like Brandon Ashley and Keith Hornsby will have to dig deep to get this team back to the postseason for the first time since their first season in Texas back in 2010-2011. With just four games remaining in the regular season, there is little to no room for error for coach Bob MacKinnon Jr. and his bunch.
