Trade update III: The deal looks to be dead at the moment as there was a misunderstanding about the Mavs receiving Derrick Jones in the deal or not.
Hearing the same thing as several others that the Dallas/Miami/Philadelphia trade that involves Jimmy Butler is dead as it was structured. Dallas may be out entirely, leaving Miami and Philadelphia to find a new 3rd team.
— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) July 1, 2019
Dragic trade update II: The Mavericks will NOT acquire Dragic in the three-team deal due to flexibility to make other moves. Will acquire Kelly Olynk and Derrick Jones from Miami.
The Mavericks are huge fans of Goran Dragic but could not take him back in the Miami sign-and-trade with Philadelphia that sends Jimmy Butler to the Heat because Dallas feared losing its flexibility to make additional moves this summer, league sources say
— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) July 1, 2019
Dragic trade update: Mavericks will receive no further compensation. How to absorb Dragic’s salary is up to the Mavs.
A source tells me that Dragic will be taken "in space," no compensation from the Mavericks. Space either being part of Mavs' $30 million cap space OR the $21.2 million Harrison Barnes trade exception. Mavs can decide which.
— Brad Townsend (@townbrad) July 1, 2019

With Kemba Walker off the table, is Tobias Harris the next/only near-max free agent option for Dallas?
As free agency nears, Mavericks focused on second-tier free agents and Hail Mary bid for Tobias Harris @townbrad | #MFFL https://t.co/Eti7JnvOQP
— SportsDay Mavs (@dmn_mavericks) June 29, 2019
Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News is reporting early Saturday night that the Mavericks are focused on mid-tier free agents but are planning on offering current 76ers wing Tobias Harris a large, but less than max, offer during the early stages of free agency. The report also hints that the Mavericks are aware that the Sixers will likely do what it takes to keep Harris with a max contract. Doesn’t hurt to try, right?
Mavs shifting their free agency focus ahead of June 30th?
Zach mentions in here that word is Mavs are focused on mid-tier free agents, not big fish. Donnie Nelson has referred to this potential route as "splitting our aces." Dallas is hunting for defenders who can shoot to complement Luka/Porzingis. https://t.co/8GUX65ddXu
— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) June 29, 2019
With the development of Kemba Walker seemingly headed to Boston and the Lakers re-entering the max free agency fray, Zach Lowe of ESPN is reporting that the Mavericks have seemed to have shifted their focus to acquiring multiple mid-tier free agents rather than one “big fish.” While this is something everyone suspected could happen all along, it is still an interesting development less than 36 hours before the start of free agency.
Patrick Beverley’s desired contract?
Sources: Patrick Beverley is seeking a deal in the three-year, $40+ million range. Suitors include Mavs, Lakers, Bulls and Clippers. Agent Bill Duffy also represents Luka Doncic and is known to be intrigued by idea of pairing bulldog Beverley with the young playmaker.
— Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) June 27, 2019
Kristaps Porziņģis to sign long-term deal with Mavs?
Multiple reports indicate the Mavs are expected to offer the 7’3 big man offer KP a max contract of $158 million over five years. Before tearing his ACL with the New York Knicks during the 2017-18 season, Porzingis was averaging 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on shooting 44 percent from the field including 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Source close to @kporzee tells me his priorities are: 1. Get longterm deal done with Dallas ASAP. 2. Spend a big chunk of the summer training with @luka7doncic.
Clearly he’s all in on Dallas and Luka. Why wouldn’t he be?
