CEDAR PARK, TX, (Nov. 4, 2017) – Justin Dentmon knocked down five threes to finish with 35 points as the Texas Legends (1-0) defeated the Austin Spurs (1-1) 123-119 in Texas’ season debut.
Johnathan Motley opened the game with an emphatic slam to put the Legends on the board first. The two teams exchanged baskets and kept it close through the first, but the Spurs held the advantage at the buzzer and built up a 14-point lead heading into the locker room.
Texas found their shot in the third, winning the quarter 35-32 but facing a 12-point deficit with 12 minutes to play. Brandon Ashley paced the comeback with 17 second half points while Dentmon followed with 16 to hold off the home team.
Dentmon led all scorers with 35 on 9-of-16 while adding 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Jameel Warney used the first game of the season to tab his first double-double with 19 points and a game-high 13 boards. Ashley finished with 19 points, 8 rebounds off the bench while Keith Hornsby and Motley combined for 31 points.
San Antonio assignee Davis Bertans powered the Spurs with 27 points, 5 rebounds while Darrun Hilliard added 24 points, 9 rebounds. Olivier Hanlan finished with 18 and Matt Costello, also on assignment from San Antonio, added 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Jaron Blossomgame and Nick Johnson added 12 points apiece off the bench.
