Harrison Barnes and the Dallas Police Department Team Up for Basketball Clinic
Just What The Doctor Ordered
Media gathered at the Exline Recreation Center to ask Mavericks’ Forward Harrison Barnes what inspired him to host a basketball clinic Saturday afternoon. His response was thoughtful and reflective of what everyone in the building had just witnessed. “I just wanted to help Dallas in the best way I could“, Barnes stated.
In an event that combined teaching basketball, promoting a healthy relationship between police and youth, and donating school supplies to children in need, Barnes certainly accomplished his goal; providing a fun and unique environment for himself and former police chief David Brown to connect with kids in the community. Barnes did more than teach kids how to shoot a jump shot, he shared with them the experience and wisdom that his NBA platform has provided him.
Sharing everything from players he admired as a child (Kobe, AI, T-Mac) , to the goals he sets for himself today, Barnes did his best to share his winning mindset with the children in attendance.
When asked what it meant to serve and play for such a great city, Barnes immediately compared it to a family. “Its like a family.” “And family takes care of family“, words Barnes seems to truly live by.
