Following an impressive victory against the Austin Spurs on Wednesday, the Legends were back on the floor tonight against the Northern Arizona Suns.
On Wednesday, the Legends were trying to integrate new teammates, Duke Mondy and Damon Lynn. Tonight, the team added two more new players to the lineup as Cory Jefferson and Willie Warren made their Legends debut.
The Legends acquired Jefferson from the Agua Caliente Clippers in a trade and claimed Warren off of waivers as his season overseas with the Shanxi Brave Dragons of the China CBA ended.
The debut of Jefferson and Warren didn’t start off too well for Texas, as the Suns jumped out to a 15 point lead at the end of the first. Josh Gray controlled the pace at ease and dominated the first half with 22 points, as the Suns took a 67-58 halftime lead.
Though they continuously battled to bring the deficit to within single digits, the Suns ran away with the game late in the fourth. Josh Gray, who has spent some time with the Phoenix Suns in recent weeks, could not be stopped, scoring 42 points along with eight rebounds and eight assists.
Johnathan Motley led the way for the Legends with 22 points and eight rebounds. Jameel Warney added 18 points.
“It’s tough. We have a few new point guards so we need to get them adjusted to the system,” Warney explained regarding the recent roster changes. “It’ll get sloppy some games but it’s just one game and we have to play better tomorrow.”
Newly acquired Willie Warren started at point guard tonight, in which will likely be his spot for the remainder of the season. “Playing with a new team, filling in late in the season like this can be tough but we’ll get better,” hometown kid Warren discussed about his debut with the team.
The Legends will have a quick turnaround tomorrow night against the Salt Lake City Stars.
