For many basketball players, sports are a part of the family pedigree.
For former Boston Celtics guard Phil Pressey, it’s no different.
His father, Paul Pressey was an NCAA All-American and a former NBAer for the Milwaukee Bucks.
A 2010 graduate of The Episcopal School of Dallas, Phil went on to play basketball at the University of Missouri, with his brother Matt, until he decided to forgo his senior year and declare for the NBA draft.
In his NBA tenure, Pressey spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Phoenix Suns, and the Golden State Warriors, in addition to the Celtics.
In 2017, Pressey landed a two-year deal with player option playing for Barcelona in the Spanish League ACB and the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
In the offseason, the 27-year old Pressey continues to keep busy with his annual summer basketball camp in Dallas. The Phil Pressey Basketball Camp is open to boys and girls ages six to 18 of all skill levels. They host younger players from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by an advanced session for older players from 4 to 7 p.m.
What makes this camp unique is Pressey and his staff, most of whom are family including Pressey’s father.
“The major difference I want for my camp is to have as much knowledge for other players and coaches, about the game of basketball, to be able to teach these kids good habits,” said Pressey.
One of the ways he’s planning to accomplish that is with the camp’s director Corey Henderson, who coached Pressey in high school at the Episcopal School of Dallas.
“I love learning from other people, other coaches,” Pressey said. “The more people that you have around you that know things, the better that is for you.”
Pressey says his camps are all about the basics. He wants players to, “build good habits – whether that’s in life, basketball, sports, work, whatever it is, good habits are the key to being successful.”
