Five takeaways from Amari Cooper’s media session

Amari Cooper spoke with the local media on Tuesday for the first time since taking less money to stay with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.

Amari loves Dallas

When the offseason started, I think a lot of fans and media were unsure on what the future was for Cooper in Dallas. Based on what Amari said Tuesday, that was unnecessary because leaving wasn’t really an option.

“I just like everything about being a Dallas Cowboy. Everything we created here, the atmosphere.”

He went on to say that he knows every team isn’t the same and he didn’t want to trade what he has in Dallas for a little more money.

Dak has a football field at his house and they have been working out for months

I’ve been curious on how NFL players have adjusted to this unusual offseason. One question I had is how often players were able to work out together, where they were working out and how many guys were in attendance. Amari answered that question Tuesday.

Amari said Dak Prescott and several of the Cowboys WRs, TEs and RBs have been working out together consistently for months. Some of those workouts have taken place at the recently finished football field at Dak’s house.

It’s almost incredible that videos didn’t leak from these workouts in 2020.

Cooper expects to have three 1,000 yard receivers.

There’s no question on what the most exciting position group on the team is heading into 2020. I don’t remember the last time, if ever I had expectations this high for a Cowboys offense. That excitement is led by the wide receivers. Amari has high expectations himself and addressed those during his media session.

“I think the expectations are to have three 1,000-yard receivers this year,” Cooper said.

Cooper is impressed with rookie receiver Ceedee Lamb

It’s still pretty incredible that Lamb fell to 17 in the NFL draft. Expectations are incredibly high for Lamb and this Cowboys offense in 2020. The fanbase and the organization are excited. Stephen Jones told Dallascowboys.com last week that he doesn’t think the NFL has seen anything like it. He’s wearing 88 for a reason and Cooper has been impressed with what he’s seen out of the rookie receiver.

Cooper mentioned that Lamb is a quick learner and has a good foundation. He also complimented Lambs route running.

Cooper has not had much communication with McCarthy and offense hasn’t changed much from what he has seen

With this unusual offseason, veteran players just met with their new head coach for the first time this past weekend. Cooper said that he hasn’t had much communication with McCarthy but Green Bay Packers wise receiver told Cooper he would like the offense.

Cooper also said that offense hasn’t changed much based on what he’s taken away from the virtual meetings.
