This contract is fantastic for Dallas. Not only is Seguin’s contract cap friendly, but it locks up our core players for another 4 years. The young center could have demanded an 8 year / $88 million contract, but he decided to take a hometown discount. Seguin stated after the contract announcement that, “I wanted something fair, but I also didn’t want to handcuff my team.” With Mattias Janmark, Julius Honka, and Esa Lindell set to become free agents this year, the Stars can offer them a better contract. Now the Stars have Seguin extended, Jamie Benn until 2025, Ben Bishop until 2023, as well as Alexander Radulov and John Klingberg until 2022.

The Day Seguin came to Dallas
Tyler Seguin was drafted 2nd overall in the 2010 draft by the Boston Bruins. He showed great talent and potential and the Bruins decided to sign him to a long-term contract. Then, Seguin was surprisingly acquired from Boston in 2013 via a trade that the Stars definitely won. Over the past 5 seasons, Seguin has posted 72 or more points, totaling 384 points. Boston has nothing to show for the trade as all 4 pieces they acquired are no longer with them. The Stars had found their number one center and now they have him locked up until 2027.
