With all of the news surrounding the suitors for Chandler Parsons, it should be no surprise to hear more and more names being mentioned in regards to his replacement. Enter Nicolas Batum.
First was this tweet earlier this morning:
Off to Dallas. See you in 2 weeks Paris! pic.twitter.com/LaNQhQKZbg
— Nicolas Batum (@nicolas88batum) June 30, 2016
Social media blew up as soon as this was posted, but it was worth noting at the time that Batum’s agent is located in a Dallas suburb, so it made sense to set up headquarters over there.
Now, it’s being reported that the Dallas Mavericks are expected to meet with Batum following the start of Free Agency. He averaged 14.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists for the Charlotte Hornets last season, while shooting almost 35% from behind the arc. The market value for Batum isn’t clear just yet, but he could be a great option should the Mavericks get some pieces and have cap space left to offer Batum a deal he can’t refuse. It’s also worth noting that Batum was a former teammate of Wesley Matthews back in Portland, so it’s safe to assume that he could be behind that pitch as well.
Per Tim MacMahon, Batum is eligible for a max contract for $153 million over five years from Charlotte or $113.6 million over four years from other suitors.
Stay tuned.
