Dallas Cowboys Stock Report: Week 3

Dallas Cowboys Stock Report: Week 3

The Dallas Cowboys improved to 3-0 on Sunday with a 31-6 win over the Miami Dolphins. The Cowboys were up 10-6 at halftime and went on to score 21 unanswered points in the 2nd half. The Cowboys will travel to New Orleans to take on the 2-1 New Orleans Saints Sunday night on NBC.

Quick Notes

Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard became the first pair of Cowboys running to each rush over 100 yards since 1998 when Emmitt Smith and Chris Warren did so against Washington. Pollard also scored his first career touchdown.

Amari Cooper underwent an “precautionary” MRI on his ankle on Wednesday after experiencing pain at practice.

Tavon Austin (concussion) and Xavier woods (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday. Tyrone Crawford, Michael Gallup and Antwaun Woods did not practice.

Stock Up

Robert Quinn

Quinn returned from suspension and played 45 snaps (63%), which surpassed the snap count the team had in mind coming into the game. Quinn was able to play really well and make his prescense felt throughout the game. He recorded one of the teams three sacks. Coming into the game, the Cowboys only had two sacks through the first two games.

Joe Thomas

Joe Thomas saw a season high 33 snaps (46%) vs. the Dolphins on Sunday after playing 3 snaps combined in the first two games. Part of his increased snaps is the Cowboys wanting to keep Jaylon Smith and the other linebackers fresh throughout the season, but Thomas’ strong camp and offseason work is a bigger part. Look for Thomas getting on the field a lot more as the season goes on.

Stock Down

Chidobe Awuzie

As I mentioned in last weeks stock report, the secondary has been the strongest part of the defense to this point and Chido has been a huge part of that. From what I have seen from Awuzie is that coverage is not an issue for Awuzie but he struggles to get his head turned around in time to make a play on the football. Chido allowed four catches in the first half alone and was also flagged for pass interference three times during the game. With Byron Jones back in the mix, you can expect teams to target his side of the field so it will be important for him to bounce back this week and the weeks to come.

Penalties

The Cowboys committed 8 penalties for 100 yards against Miami. One of the penalties costed Randall Cobb his second touchdown of the season. While they were able to overcome those penalties Sunday, it will be important that they do not take the penalties on the road to New Orleans.
