Dallas Cowboys pre-season stock report: Week 3

Dallas Cowboys pre-season stock report: Week 3

The Dallas Cowboys were steamrolled in their third preseason game Sunday night by the Arizona Cardinals 27-3. The lack of depth on the roster really showed as the Cowboys committed eight turnovers. The Cowboys didn’t play any of their top guys on offense, including Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.

STOCK UP

Randy Gregory

The first team defense continues to shine in the preseason. The latest player to perform well on the defense was Randy Gregory. Gregory recorded one sack and continues to head in the right direction to be a big contributor September 9th when the Cowboys open up the regular season in Carolina.

Tyrone Crawford

With Gregory back in the fold, that allows Tyrone Crawford to move back inside and cause havoc in the running game as well as the passing game. He showed a little bit of that ability Sunday night. Crawford made two tackles including getting in the backfield to tackle Chase Edmonds for no gain.

Jourdan Lewis

Jourdan Lewis is a guy that made a name for himself last year as a rookie. So far, during training camp he’s had a rough go of it. New secondary coach Kris Richard historically likes length at the corner position so Lewis came into training camp slotted behind Anthony Brown. Lewis showed a sign of getting back to that 2017 form Sunday night and hopefully that will continue into the regular season.

STOCK DOWN

Blake Jarwin

The Cowboys will have a tight end this season but the competition isn’t going as well as expected. We are now less than two weeks away from the opening game and none of the tight ends competing for the job have made their mark. Jarwin was a name you heard a lot of when Jason Witten retired. On Sunday, he made two catches totaling six yards and lost a fumble.

Lance Lenoir

The 2018 training camp darling had a rough go of it returning punts Sunday night. He was charged with two fumbles, although one of them wasn’t his fault as Byron Jones ran into him. Punt returns is not a job that he would do in a regular season game so that is not expected to affect his status on the team.

Cooper Rush

Cooper Rush made the stock down report again this week after another lackluster performance. Rush completed 11 passes on 17 attempts, but those 11 completions only went for 93 yards and he threw two interceptions, including a pick six. The expectation is that Rush remains the 2nd quarterback during the season but the Cowboys could cut him and try to get him through waivers when rosters have to be cut to 53 on Saturday.
