Cowboys Pick Up Running Back Ronnie Hillman
It was announced early this morning that the Dallas Cowboys have signed free agent running back Ronnie Hillman.
The Cowboys will be Hillman’s fourth team. His best season was back in 2015 when he ran for 863 yards, caught 24 passes and had seven touchdowns. Overall, he’s managed to run for 1,976 yards and crossed the goal line 12 times over his five-year career.
You can look at this pick-up by the Cowboys from a couple of different viewpoints. Obviously, the first guess would be that this is a preliminary response to a possible Ezekiel Elliott suspension. The problem with that notion is the Cowboys already have Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris backing him up.
The more realistic explanation is that the Cowboys were still looking for a replacement for Lance Dunbar. They may have just found it.
Lastly, there was news out of training camp that Cowboys 2017 draft pick Jahad Thomas has been having lingering hamstring issues. The Cowboys want to make sure they have depth at the running back position at all times, so rather than looking to the big headline story of a Ezekiel Elliott suspension as the reason for this signing, it may just be that the Boys’ are strictly just adding to the position.
