The Dallas Cowboys will look to win their third division title the last four seasons in 2017. The Cowboys will face a first place schedule that includes the AFC West, which is arguably the best division football and the NFC West that also has some fierce competition. They will also face the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers outside of their own division.
Here is how I have the season turning out for the boys in 2017.
Week 1: Sunday, Sept 10th vs. New York Giants
The Dallas Cowboys kick off their 2017 season against their rival Giants. Cowboys lost both meetings last season by a combined four points so they will be looking to avenge those losses and they will as Dak Prescott gets his first win against the Giants.
Prediction: Cowboys 27-17, Cowboys 1-0
Week 2: Sunday, Sept 17th vs. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos bring a very good defense to the stadium every weekend led by Von Miller. They do have some playmakers at the receiver position, but the quarterback position is a huge question mark. With that being said, the Cowboys score just enough points to improve their record to 2-0 in the mile high city.
Prediction: Cowboys 20-13, Cowboys 2-0
Week 3: Monday, Sept 25th vs. Arizona Cardinals
This one has the makings of a shootout. The Cardinals are expected to be much improved from last season. David Johnson and company hand the Cowboys their first loss of the 2017 season.
Prediction: Cardinals 34-30, Cowboys 2-1
Week 4: Sunday, Oct 1st vs. Los Angeles Rams
Dak and company prove to be too much for Jared Goff and the Rams. Cowboys will see old friend, Wade Phillips who is the defensive coordinator for the rams. We will see if Aaron Donald has ended his holdout by then as well.
Prediction: Cowboys 27-10, Cowboys 3-1
Week 5: Sunday, Oct 8th vs. Green Bay Packers
The Packers make a return trip to AT&T stadium after sending the Cowboys home in January. This trip will not be as fun for Aaron Rodgers and company. Cowboys win a high scoring, back and forth battle.
Prediction: Cowboys 31-28, Cowboys 4-1
Week 6: BYE
Week 7: Sunday, Oct 22nd vs. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are in full rebuild mode and will have a hard time stopping Dez Bryant with a very young secondary. Dez leads the team to victory with over 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Prediction: Cowboys 30-14, Cowboys 5-1
Week 8: Sunday, Oct 29th vs. Washington Redskins
Cowboys vs. Redskins will always be a game everyone is tuned into. Then when you throw in Dez Bryant vs. Josh Norman, it becomes must-see TV. Cowboys won both matchups last season and will continue to own this matchup. It will be another high scoring affair.
Prediction: Cowboys 34-31, Cowboys 6-1
Week 9: Sunday, Nov 5th vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Cowboys are rolling now. They bring in a four game winning streak into a home matchup against Alex Smith and the Chiefs. The chiefs have been one of the best teams in the AFC over the past few seasons under head coach Andy Reid. The Cowboys will not see quite the success on offense they’ve had to this point in the season, but will find a way to score enough points. This is a game that will probably have Tony Romo on the call.
Prediction: Cowboys 21-17, Cowboys 7-1
Week 10: Sunday, Nov 12th vs. Atlanta Falcons
Winning streak ends at five. Cowboys can’t make enough stops on defense and Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman win a shootout in ATL.
Prediction: Falcons 38-33, Cowboys 7-2
Week 11: Sunday, Nov 19th vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The Cowboys return to the division with a Sunday night matchup against the Eagles. The Eagles played the Cowboys tough in a similar matchup last season and will do that again, but will leave with a hard fought loss.
Prediction: Cowboys 24-23, Cowboys 8-2
Week 12: Thursday, Nov 23rd vs. Los Angeles Chargers
The Cowboys have their work cut out for them on Thanksgiving as they will be playing a Thursday afternoon after playing on Sunday night. However, that does not stop them from improving to 9-2 at home against a talented chargers team.
Prediction: Cowboys 30-24, Cowboys 9-2
Week 13: Thursday, Nov 30th vs. Washington Redskins
Cowboys maintain their undefeated record at home with a very entertaining win against the Redskins. Redskins hang around most of the game then the NFC east leading Cowboys pull away late.
Prediction: Cowboys 34-24, Cowboys 10-2
Week 14: Sunday, Dec 10th vs. New York Giants
Cowboys beat the Giants to open the season and Giants will return the favor when the Cowboys make their annual trip to the meadowlands. Cowboys still leave in first place and looking to secure a bye week.
Prediction: Giants 20-17, Cowboys 10-3
Week 15: Sunday, Dec 17th vs. Oakland Raiders
After flying all the way east, the cowboys will head out west to take on one of the best teams in the AFC. This should be entertaining and could be a Super Bowl preview. Raiders win a close one.
Prediction: Raiders 27-23, Cowboys 10-4
Week 16: Sunday, Dec 24th vs. Seattle Seahawks
December doesn’t get any easier when the Seahawks come to town. Seahawks are a top team in the NFC and will come into this game wanting to send a message to another NFC Super Bowl contender.
A matchup to watch will be Kam Chancellor vs. Ezekiel Elliott. The first time Elliott hit the field he immediately introduced himself to Kam and that matchup didn’t end well for Kam.
Prediction: Cowboys 21-17, Cowboys 11-4
Week 17: Sunday, Dec 31st vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Another week 17 in Philadelphia, this game could be deciding if the Cowboys get a first round by or if they will be hosting a wild card game the following week. The Cowboys fall short and go 1-3 in December.
Prediction: Eagles 23-20, Cowboys 11-5
