Tonight, the Dallas Mavericks (35-35) take on the Portland Trail Blazers (36-35) at the Moda Center in Oregon in a game with enormous playoff implications. A Mavs win tonight would give Dallas sole possession of the sixth seed, after the Houston Rockets (35-36) fell 111-107 to the Oklahoma City Thunder (49-22) last night.

After the ageless wonder, Dirk Nowitzki, tallied 40 points in the Mavericks 132-120 overtime victory over the Trail Blazers on Sunday night, the Blazers will be looking for vengeance in the second leg of a home and home.

Sunday night’s matchup proved the Mavs are capable of overcoming Trail Blazers stars C.J. McCollum and Damian Lilliard. Despite 26 and 22 points from Lillard and McCollum respectively, the Mavs were able to outshoot the high-powered Portland offensive. With the help of 31 points, including four three-pointers, from Mavs point guard Deron Williams, Dallas converted 60 percent of their shots from downtown. Hopefully that trend can continue tonight.

The Mavs need this vital game in order to help keep the faithful MFFL’s hopes alive, especially after the devastating injury news for their star small forward. Chandler Parsons is currently seeking a second opinion on his injured right knee before undergoing season-ending arthroscopic surgery.

With Western Conference’s seeds six through nine fighting for the final three remaining playoffs spots, the Mavs know that the Trail Blazers, Rockets, and the Utah Jazz will all be gunning for them. The Mavericks are a force to be reckoned with, and the support they get from the fans, it just puts that much more pep in their step for a victory and securing their rightful spot.
