Today, the Dallas Mavericks announced they have requested waivers on Samuel Dalembert, Brandon Ashley, Tu Holloway and Jamil Wilson. The Mavs roster now sits on 16, with a Monday deadline looming to get the team’s roster down to the league’s 15-player maximum.

Ashley (1.1 points, 2.6 rebounds) and Wilson (2.4 points, 1.6 rebounds) were both seen as long shots to make the final roster, after playing limited minutes in the team’s seven preseason games. On Friday, the Mavs announced they had waived forward Jarrid Famous to sign (and later cut) guard Tu Holloway in a move that would all them to gain his D-League rights and send him to the Texas Legends.

While the decision to cut Dalembert (4.5 points, 4.5 rebounds) may seem like somewhat of a surprise, after he signed a guaranteed one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum this past offseason, he appeared to be on a short leash with head coach Rick Carlisle. He reportedly showed up to training camp out of shape and has a history of inattentiveness dating back to first stint with the Mavs during the 2013-14 season when he was suspended for oversleeping and arriving late to a team workout session. During the team’s preseason this year, Dalembert was outplayed by 29 year-old, rookie Tunisian center Salah Mejri (3.6 points, 5.6 rebounds) and appeared to be on the chopping block after missing the final three exhibition games with a left leg injury.

According to ESPN Dallas, the Mavs are now having internal discussions on whether the team should award the 15th and final roster spot to Mejri or rookie, project forward Maurice Ndour.
