Game five of the NBA season was in Dallas, as the Mavs hosted Memphis, taking care of business picking up their first win of the season 103-94 over the Grizzlies. Dallas rookie Dennis Smith Jr. scored a game-high 19 points to go along with 5 assists with just one turnover as the Mavs (1-4) halted their four-game losing streak to start the season.
After the game, Dirk Nowitzki headed to the Mavs locker room shouting “one-and-four, one-and-four!”
Dallas understood what an important win it was against the Memphis Grizzlies. They used a balanced attack, leading by as much as 19 points, while focusing in on crashing the boards, an area they’ve struggled in to begin the young season.
“We had a good start,” Nowitzki said, finishing with 13 points and 5 rebounds. “We jumped on them early. They (Memphis) looked a step slow. We played well there. We had some good ball movement. We found some stuff the past couple games that work for us offensively.”
The Mavs will now head to Memphis for the second game of a home-and-home, back-to-back series tonight at FedEx Forum.
